The John Southworth School of Music & Song teaches how to create and how to create freely; how to break blocks and expand new creative vision. Individual lessons with John offer a uniquely personal and original method of making songs, music and poetry, no matter the age or level or instrument, with the aim of discovering and heightening each individual's original creative voice, creative instinct and inherent artistic wisdom. Here mistakes, risk and adventure are wholly honored and supported.
The first endeavor will be to write your first song or piece of music (even if you have written many before), using new and liberating techniques to train your creative agility so that it will always be free flowing, evolving and at your command. Lessons will also mine the therapeutic and healing qualities of song and music making, stimulating memory power and overall health.
Here are the basic tenets of this school:
1.Music is liberation
2.Music is childhood
3.Music is first and foremost to be created
4.Music is medicine
5.Music is mistakes
6.Music and words are the same thing
7.The act of creating is art
8.The act of creating is love
9.The act of creating is non-judgemental
10.The act of creating is healing
